Alexis News

     Residents are reminded that wheel tax stickers are due September 1st for all vehicles. Persons may purchase them by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope with/make, model, year, color, license number and fee of $5-vehicle and $3- motorcycle to village clerk, P.O. Box 356, Alexis, IL. 61412, by using the drop box at Town Hall or by seeing the clerk at Town Hall, Monday thru Friday mornings, Clerk McCreight will be at Community Center-Aug. 28th 5 - 7 P.M. Failure to purchase and display sticker by September 1st will result in a $25.00 fine.

     Bryan and Jenny Olson, Rock Island, will be guests of honor at a wedding reception, Saturday, August 18th, from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Alexis Community Center. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. They were married Friday, July 13th in Cambridge, OH. The bridegroom, the son of Ted and Connie Olson Jr., Alexis, is employed at Dohrn Transportation, Rock Island. The bride works at QC Mart, Moline.

     Amanda Larson-Ford and James Ford 111, Crisfield, Md., are the parents of a son, Austin Mathew Ford, that was born at 2:19 P.M. Monday, July 23rd in Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, Md. Grandparents are Bob and Kelsey Larson, rural Alexis, and Jim and Carla Ford, Salisbury.

     Jim and Virginia Litchefield, Knoxville, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary August 10th. A private family celebration was held. He taught vocational agriculture in Alexis, Knoxville and at Carl Sandburg College. He farms and was a seed salesman. She taught school in Rantoul, Monmouth and Knoxville. Cards may be addressed to them at 312 Galesburg Road, Knoxville, IL 61448.

     Edna Reynolds, Taylor Ridge, was honored during an open house Sunday, August 12th, in observance of her 90th birthday. The former Edna Ryner was born August 8th, 1917 at Gerlaw. She married Willard Reynolds in Davenport, IA. He is deceased. She was employed as a head cook at Canteen Corporation, retiring in 1975. She is a member of Edgington Presbyterian Church. She has a daughter, 3 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and a stepgreat-grandaughter.

     August SHARE information-deadline for sign-up is thru Sunday the 12th. Contact Sheila Pressley 482-5549. Delivery Day is Friday the 24th beginning by 1:30 P.M. at Alexis Community Center.

     Hazel ( Grabosch ) Bracken, 92 Silvis, died Sunday, July 29th, at Genesis Medical Center. A memorial service was held August 4th at First United Presbyterian Church, Moline. Burial was in Alexis Cemetery. Memorials may be made to her Church. Hazel had resided in Alexis where she was head cook at Alexis High School. A daughter, Janet ( Delane ) Johnson, survives with other other relatives. Hazel was was preceded in death by two husbands, Chuck Grabosch and Samuel Bracken, two sisters and two brothers.
